He graduated from Kyoto University in 1992, where he received his Ph. D. under the supervision of Prof. Yoshihiko Ito in 1998. In 1996, he joined the faculty at Kyoto University as an assistant professor. He collaborated as a postdoc with Prof. John Hartwig in Yale University in 2001�2002. He moved to Kyushu University as an associate professor in 2002, and was promoted to a full professor in 2009. He has received Mitsui Chemicals Catalysis Science Award of Encouragement (2005), Incentive Award in Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Japan (2005), the Commendation for Science and Technology by MEXT, The Young Scientists' Prize (2008).
